Actress Gina La Piana Steps into Soul Era in New Series “American Soul”
Actress/singer/writer Gina La Piana steps into the era of soul as she takes on the role of tough, hard-hitting attorney ‘Sandra Jacobs’ in the highly-anticipated new drama series from BET, “American Soul” premiering February 5th at 9 pm EST. The new series will show the rise and fall of impresario Don Cornelius, who created the dance show, “Soul Train,” the first nationally- syndicated black music show, against the backdrop of an unforgiving Hollywood in the 1970s. Set in the 70s against the backdrop of an extremely cutthroat Hollywood, BET’s new original series “American Soul” shares the untold story of “Soul Train” creator, Don Cornelius. An experience like no other, audiences will take a look into this legend’s life with Sinqua Walls as the lead, alongside Kelly Rowland, Kelly Price, Jason Dirden, Iantha Richardson, Christopher Jefferson, Katlyn Nichol, and Jelani Winston.
A true talent from a young age, Gina started her career as a musician landing 5 major record deals and working with some of the greatest talents in the business including star maker Randy Jackson. It wasn’t until she was a teenager that she knew acting was her true path in life and would eventually find herself at the American Academy of Dramatic Arts at the age of 18. It was not long after realizing her passion in life that Gina knew film and television was it, booking the second only audition she’d ever been on. Now a seasoned veteran, Gina has also branched out into writing and producing.
When not sinking her teeth into her next big role, Gina can be found co-writing on some of today’s biggest hits in the EDM world and working on her upcoming film WELCOME TO WOLFSON CASTLE which she is set to begin filming in France this February. In her off time, Gina loves spending time with her dog Atlas which she inherited from her dear late friend, biologist and documentarian Rob Stewart (SHARKWATER).
