Harry Belafonte

Back by popular demand, bandmates of icon Harry Belafonte celebrated his 92nd birthday with a tribute concert at Aaron Davis Hall on Friday, March 1, at 7:30 p.m.

The Turn the World Around: The Music and Legacy of Harry Belafonte, the joyful tribute to the music and lasting legacy of the entertainer-activist, returns to Aaron Davis Hall. The Belafonte Alumni Group — a collection of artists who toured with Belafonte for years — performed songs made famous by the icon while sharing behind-the-scenes anecdotes, stories, and photos from their time with the legend. This was a must-see concert presented on, and in honor of, Belafonte’s 92nd birthday.

The Belafonte Alumni Group includes singers: Ty Stephens, Branice McKenzie, Sharon Brooks, Roumel Reaux, Gabrielle Lee, and Deborah Sharpe Taylor.

The Band consisted of musicians: Richard Cummings Jr. (piano/music director); Damon DueWhite(drums), Emanuel “Chulo” Gatewood (bass), Neil Clarke (percussion), Gregg Fine (electric guitar), Paul Ricci (acoustic guitar), John F. Adams(synth/keyboards) and Morris Goldberg (flute/saxophone).

The historic musical event was followed by a reception along with pictures of the singers on the red carpet.
