Actor Hale Appleman

Broodingly handsome with an infectious personality and magical charm, Hale Appleman, became an instant addiction for his breakout role and undeniable standout performance as ‘Eliot Waugh’ in Syfy’s newest dark and gritty fantasy drama, “The Magicians,” (airs Wednesday’s at 9/8c on Syfy) and we would love to arrange an interview with you and this New York actor’s actor as he evolves as a leading man in season two! His commanding and brilliant performance as a complex and deceptive magician stole the show and proves that he is Hollywood’s next great leading man. As unofficial ring leader to the students at Brakebills College for Magical Pedagogy, a secret upstate New York university specializing in magic, ‘Eliot’ calls all the shots and no one dares to second guess him. He is a massive series of contradictions: both masculine and feminine, nurturing and harsh, confident and vulnerable.

The series is based on the New York Times best-selling trilogy of the same name by Lev Grossman, looking at magic through a dark lens and following a group of oddballs and misfits on their unpredictable adventures. In the highly-anticipated second season, the group of unlikely heroes is faced with an even more dangerous and unfamiliar territory. With the fate of the world in their hands, Elliot and his classmates will be driven by power, revenge and survival in the hauntingly beautiful world of Fillory where they must either save the entire magical world or fail and let it die all together.

Born and raised in New York City, Appleman always had a connection to the arts. His mother was a modern dancer as well as an abstract performer and his father was an English literature teacher. As a shy child he loved drawing and painting and thought he may become a visual artist. At 8 years old Hale began playing the piano and by 10 he transitioned to performing in shows at TADA! Youth Theater, a highly regarded professional-quality youth Arts Education program specializing in musical theater. Because each show required at least a 3-month commitment from their performers, Appleman learned early on that becoming a serious actor would require diligence and dedication. By his early teens he was acting in Shakespeare plays in Nyack, New York including roles in “Rome & Juliet,” “A Midsummer Night’s Dream” and “Twelfth Night.”

Hale has had some of the most elite professional training to master his acting craft. He graduated from the famed LaGuardia High School of Performing Arts and studied at Carnegie Mellon University’s prestigious School of Drama. He made his film debut in Chad Lowe’s feature BEAUTIFUL OHIO opposite, Willian Hurt. Additionally, Appleman played “Tobey” in the 2007 film TEETH. On stage, Appleman starred in Jeff Buckley’s The Last Goodbye, directed by Alex Timbers’ at the Old Globe in San Diego, the New York premiere of Sarah Ruhl’s Passion Play as Jesus and the revival of David Rabe’s Streamers on Broadway. Appleman is also a passionate musician who writes his own music and song lyrics in his rare down time.
