Lynn Nottage’s New Play Clyde’s Starring Uzo Aduba and Ron Cephas Jones
The new play, Clyde’s from two-time Pulitzer Prize winner Lynn Nottage, recently opened on Broadway November 23 at Second Stage’s Helen Hayes Theater.
The show stars Uzo Aduba in the title role. Clyde’s also features Ron Cephas Jones, Edmund Donovan, Reza Salazar, and Kara Young as well. The play is set at a truck stop diner and is very clever and funny while displaying the lives of 5 individuals learning to work together.
Even as the shop’s insensitive owner played so well by Uzo Aduba, tries to keep them under her thumb, the staff members have the dreams and their shared quest to create the perfect sandwich. This dynamic adds another layer to a story that moving, and very relevant.
Nottage also cleverly infuses unexpected humor with politically charged themes during the discussions between the kitchen staff. The conversations are real, thought-provoking and easily pulls the audiences in to feel what the character is feeling at that moment.
Second Stage will live stream the final 16 performances of Clyde’s (scheduled for January 4–16 2022), in addition to in-person audiences.
