On Monday, October 21, 2019, the annual NAN Triumph Awards were held at the legendary Apollo Theater in Harlem. The event was hosted by journalist Cheryl Wills along with the Reverend Al Sharpton.

The Triumph Awards recognizes distinguished individuals and/or corporations in the arts, entertainment, education, sports, politics, and the corporate sector who have made a positive impact on our society by utilizing their talents and resources to help those within disadvantaged communities.

The awards show was started by National Action Network in 2010 and has honored luminaries like TV One/Radio One Founder and Executive Cathy Hughes; Founder, Chairman & Chief Executive of Lucas film George Lucas; Actor, Director, Producer and Author, Tyler Perry; Senator Kamala Harris; Entertainment Mogul and Chairman of Bad Boy Worldwide Entertainment Group Sean Combs; and Award-winning actress Phylicia Rashad among others.

This year, in addition to honoring luminaries in the arts who’ve made exemplary strides to break barriers and make a huge impact on community and culture beyond their celebrity, the event will honor images that have helped to shape African American culture and legacy such as the civil rights movement, and gospel music.
